September 21, Tuesday Birds and Poetry
7pm in CNS E103 -- Bill Morgan will read poems, including some of his own, that were written about birds and nature. The poetry readings will be accompanied with slides of the featured birds and wildlife. Dale Birkenholz and Given Harper will provide commentary about each species.
October 21, Thursday Movie: Ghost Bird
7pm in CNS101 -- Ghost Bird is a feature length documentary about an extinct giant woodpecker, a small town in Arkansas hoping to reverse its misfortunes, and the tireless odyssey of the bird-watchers and scientists searching for the Holy Grail of birds, the elusive Ivory-billed woodpecker. Following five years of rigorous searching, the Ivory-bill has eluded all efforts to be irrefutably documented by scientists and bird-watchers. After the movie Dr. Angelo Capparella will lead a discussion about the continued search for the “Lord God Bird,” the historical name given to the Ivory-bill by the people who were awed by this magnificent bird.
November -- JWP Audubon will co-sponsor a talk with the Friends of Kickapoo Creek in November about the stream and ecosystem restoration at The Grove near Bloomington. The date and time of this presentation will be included in a future issue.
